St Brendan’s GAA Club, residing in the heart of Dublin 7, is one of the oldest sporting organisations in the area, with nearly 150 active playing members and 300 non‐playing members.
Prior to the re‐development of DIT/Grangegorman, the club were based in the grounds of St. Brendan’s Hospital, Grangegorman. Currently, we are based in Longmeadows, Chapelizod Road. The club has an extensive playing area, with a full‐sized playing pitch, floodlit training area and dressing rooms.
Once, DIT/Grangegorman is finished, we will return to the grounds with access to state of the art facilities including a floodlit full‐sized playing area, astro-turf area and gym. Our aim is to be an established leader in organising, developing and promoting Gaelic Games in Dublin 7 and to be at the heart of the community, providing a positive, fun, challenging and inclusive experience for all our members – on and off the pitch.
At Adult level, the club fields two men’s football teams, a men’s hurling team and a ladies football team. 2010 marked the club’s 90th anniversary and plans are afoot to celebrate its 100th milestone in style.
This year, it was decided that a Girls & Boys GAA nursery be set up in the club. We believe this is an exciting prospect for many reasons:
- Currently no Juvenile GAA club or nursery in the area
- Very few sporting clubs in the area
- Densely populated, disadvantaged area
- St. Brendan’s have an established club in place with motivated leaders and coaches
