St Brendan's will field two teams in this year's Dublin football leagues, it was announced at the club's latest committee meeting.
Captained by Paul McDonagh, and with the capable support of vice-captain Willie McCarthy, the second team - AKA the Darkest Force - will most likely be competing in AFL 12 North.
The original Dark Force will continue their everlasting battle to gain promotion for AFL9, while just one team has been entered for the Cup and the Junior D Championship.
The Sheridan Cup alas is no more, and St. Brendans have instead been drawn in Group 3 of the Parson Cup with Clontarf, Parnells and Erin Go Breagh, with the top two teams qualifying for the quarter finals.
The announcement of the new second team is just reward for the incredible effort put in by Paul McDonagh and Willie McCarthy last year in getting the idea off the ground. It is a credit to them, particularly at a time when other small clubs around Dublin are finding it difficult to recruit players.
Joining them as selectors on the management team will be club stalwarts John Walsh, Maoliosa McHugh and John Michael McLoughlin. The Sligo man will be taking on the on-field captain's role.
Training for the second team has already commenced and a challenge game this Sunday in Grangegorman against Tyrellstown will be their first competitive fixture of the year.
Training for all teams will get underway within the next fortnight and final details will be announced via Teamer. All members are encouraged - as always - to invite new players along to play in either code.
An event to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the club has also been announced. It will take place next October and a sub-committee of the club have taken charge of the arrangements.
On Sunday the 31st St. Brendans commenced their preparations for AFL12 North with a challenge against Tyrellstown.
Although slow to start, The Darkest Force conceded two first half goals the second of which was a penalty, but did play with some flair in patches, by putting together a series of passes and there were notabe points from hurlers Seamus Harrington and Shane Gilbert.
The best point of the day for the home side came from Damien Daly, a move in which Sham totally changed the direction of the play by pin pointing a pass to the unmarked Monaghan man for a well taken score.
Also there were good preformances from Tom Bourke, Maoliosa McHugh, Will McCarthy and Ken Laird.
Final score St. Brendans 0-9 Tyrellstown 2-9.
Seven days later a second Challenge against old nemesis, St. Peregrines, and after a kamikaze start the sides were level 3-1 a piece, yes SIX goals in the opening fifteen minutes. But the rest of the first half was a lull.
John Micheal McLoughlin could do nothing as Pergs chipped in two second half goals, but there was good preformances all round from Shane O'Dwyer, Rob Stack, Eugene Cunningham, Eoin Smith and someone who bears an uncanny resemblence to USA 90's soccer star Alexi Lalas.
