Week of Mixed Fortunes for Dark Forces
THE Dark Force got their fourth win of the year under their belts against St Sylvesters in a raging wind ... unfortunately, there was no referee and they'll have to do it all again later this season when they face the Malahide outfit.
It was a difficult day for football and the gale-force breeze played havoc with the Bs on the lower pitch where a bad day at the office ended in a heavy defeat to O'Tooles.
The valiant Mick McGinty – playing in goals – was beaten six times as the green flag saw regular action. St Brendan's only goal in response came from a long looping ball from Crusher Cusack, which bounced several times before landing untouched in the back of the net.
On the top pitch, the Dark Force outplayed St Sylvester's in a challenge game, necessitated by the absence of a referee. The two points remain in the balance for when the match is eventually rescheduled.
In the midweek games, the B team easily got the better of Naomh Barrog in Kilbarrack running up their biggest score of the season, a sizable tally of 3-15 and tight defence saw just four points conceded.
Over in Tallaght, the shooting boots of Paul McDonough's side would have been sorely welcomed as the Dark Force succumbed on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-8. It was a dismal loss as chance after chance after chance went abegging. Indeed, the Gormanites had about six good chances on goal, none of which found the back of the net. The long-range shooting was also going awry and good points from the likes of Garrett Cleary, John Moore and Gavin Hanley were not enough to save the day.
The team: 1/ Colin Garvin, 2/ Ken Foxe, 3/ Brendan Sharkey, 4/ Peter Fallon, 5/ Trevor Purtill, 6/ John Ryan, 7/ Shane O'Dwyer, 8/ Mark McEntee, 9/ Shane Foley, 10/ Gavin Hanley, 11/ Willie McLoughlin, 12/ Robbie Caulfield, 13/ Dave Ryan, 14/ Garrett Cleary, 15/ John Moore
Subs: Timmy Ryan, Justin McCormack, Peter Burke
