Hurlers put one foot in AHL5
News Item added:14-07-2010
The Hurlers are enjoying a hugely successful 2010 season and will do battle on September 11 to secure a second consecutive promotion. The Dark Force have racked up three great results in recent weeks, with wins over Ballyboden St Enda's, O'Dwyers and a crucial draw with Faughs.
The Hurlers strengthened their grip on an AHL6 crown with an emphatic victory over St Monica's, with the scorers: Gar Cleary 1-4, Shane Foley 0-6, Bull 1-2, Sham Harrington 0-3, Stephen Brophy 0-1, and Ed Duignan 1-0.
The ensuing Monica's game was not without incident. After Duignan's Goal, there was a bout of fisticuffs involving two St. Monica's players, one of whom walked off the pitch, only to be cajoled into playing again.
There was further controversy when a shot by Duignan rattled the bar and went over, only for the referee to signal a wide. There were also excellent defensive performances from Shane Gilbert, Tom Bourke and Noel Lane.
On July 9, excellent goals by Ray Kelly and Sham Harrington were the key scores as The Dark Force and Faughs battled it out to share the spoils. The scorers were Sham Harrington 1-6 (all from frees), Ray Kelly 1-1, The Bull 0-1, and Shane Foley 0-2.
Next up is a double header of Junior D Championship action with away fixtures against St. Sylvesters and St. Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh. So let's hope the Gorman men can carry their superb league form over into that competition.
