Things looking up for our hurlers

hurlSun 12 August 2018 – The Transdev sponsored hurling team made the journey out to the superb facilities of St. Pats in Donabate, in the latest instalment of AHL7. Things got off to the worst possible start when Vince O’ Flynn forgot all the team water bottles. Luckily enough, things on the pitch fared a lot better.

Early points from Shane Foley and Darren “The White Feather” Callinan settled the team and thanks to good pressure from all the forwards, there was lots of Donabate possession overturned. The fullback line of Brian Larkin, Mark Kinsella and man of the match Padraig Pratt, gave a superb display in defence, with the only real blot in proceedings being a well worked Donabate goal. That was as good as things got for St. Pats in the first half however. Good pressure from Rory Tynan in the full forward line resulted in a turnover with Gavin Muldoon hitting the back of the St. Pats net.

Halftime score:  St. Brendans 1-06 to 1-02 St Pats Donabate

The second half started with some well taken points for the Dark Force, however there was a stalemate for large periods of the second half. With the sides stuck at 1-11 to 1-05, St. Pats were putting the Brendan’s defence under severe pressure with Richie Barry required to save two certain goal chances.

Indeed had St. Pats converted some of their point chances, the result may have been totally different. However, as they did in the first half, the defence held firm. Sean Beatty started to get a stranglehold in mid-field and Cian Walsh made a couple of changes with Vince O’Flynn and Shane Muldoon introduced to add fresh impetus to the Brendan’s attack. Further points followed and another goal by Darren Callinan put some gloss on the final scoreline and a much needed, well deserved 2 points for the hurlers with the final two league fixtures coming up are against St. Brigids and Round Towers Lusk.

Final Score from Donabate: St Brendans 2-15 to 1-05 St Pat’s Donabate
