It’s that time of year again – Our Every Steps Counts Challenge is back in 2024 – time to sign up for the GAA/ Irish Life - Every Step Counts Challenge.

What better way to embrace a healthier lifestyle this January than with a club activity.

The Every Step Counts Challenge really is for everybody not just for club members – kick start the year with a challenge to boost your health and wellbeing while supporting your local GAA Club.

Signing up is really simple - just follow these easy steps:
📱 Download the Irish Life MyLife app either from the Google Play Store (Android Phones) or the Apple App Store (iphones)

💬 Register or log in (if you have an account already)
Select your challenge (Social▶️Challenges▶️Leinster▶️St Brendan’s Grangegorman)

All you have to do then is your normal walking and your steps are credited to St Brendan’s.

The promotion runs from 8th Jan until 12th Feb and it’s a great way to start the New Year.

Any club that hits the target of 4,000 kilometres over the 5 weeks is entered into a provincial draw for 3 O’Neill’s vouchers (for the Club) to the value of €2500, €1500 and €1000.

Walking, running and jogging all count towards this – so why not join in and start the New Year with this challenge.

**Important Note!!**
Connecting your phone's step counter/activity tracker is really important or we won't get the benefit of all your walking! In the MyLife App, go to ‘Track’ then ‘Trackers’ then select your device (e.g. Fitbit, Apple Watch, SmartWatch, etc.). The easiest way being to simply add your phone’s health app. If you don’t do this your steps won’t be credited.

The challenge lasts for just over a month and it's a great excuse to get yourself and the family out for a much-needed bit of air.

Regular physical activity is the key to staying healthy and we are committing to supporting this within our club and community.

The HSE’s National Guidelines on Physical Activity for Ireland offer recommendations for physical activity across ages and abilities.

These include:

Children and young people (aged 2 –18) - At least 60 minutes every day to include muscle-strengthening, flexibility, and bone-strengthening exercises three times a week.

Adults (aged 18–64) - At least 30 minutes a day of moderate-intensity activity, five days a week.

Older people (aged 65+) - At least 30 minutes a day of moderate-intensity activity, five days a week. Focus on aerobic activity, muscle strengthening, and balance.

Children and adults with a disability - Aim to be as active as the disability allows in order to meet your age group’s guidelines.

Stay safe, stay well, and if you see anyone out in their club colours, wave or say hello.
