Fresh from watching the Ireland Rugby team win an historic Grand Slam at the Aviva, The St Brendan's 1st XV, Wearing their 2017 spec Skylon Hotel sponsored jersey, took on Ballyboden St Endas hoping to continue the teams unbeaten run in AFL5, after a victory over Cuala four weeks ago and a draw against Round Towers Clondalkin two weeks previously.

It took Dark Force two minutes to get the opening score thanks to Cillian ‘Return Of The Mack’ Morrisson, after a pass from The Longford Leader John Burns. The two combined for the second score after 15 minutes, following a turnover from Michael ‘The DJ’ Cahill, who gave an eye of the needle kick pass to Burns and finally pointed by Morrisson. 0-2 to 0-1.

That became 0-3 to 0-1 with Morrisson rounding off his hat trick of points when collecting a Ger Bannon free in.

The contest sprung to life in the final three minutes. After a second Ballyboden point, Bannon won the kick out and passed to Burns who soloed 30 meters and finally a pass to Oisin O Boyle and a well judged point.

Up to that point, it was the best point of the first half, but Morrisson topped that with a shot from the outside of the right boot after Colm Harte won possession a final pass to Morrisson.

Half Time Score was 0-5 to 0-2 to St Brendan’s but unfortunately, this writer had to leave Longmeadows at half time and despite Ballyboden St Enda’s hitting eight points in the second half, Points from Brendan Brogan and Oisin O Boyle as well as 1-1 from Cillian Morrisson, won the contest for St Brendan's on a final score of 1-8 to 0-10 and leave the team 4th in AFL5 after three rounds, One of the teams in the top 3, O’Dwyers, are next up for St Brendan’s on April 2nd.

Later that afternoon at the grounds of St Fintans High School in Sutton, the 2nd XV were beaten 4-8 to 0-10 by Naomh Barróg, but dont let that scoreline think that the 2nds played poorly. A lot of good football was played A lot of lads had to step up and play out of their usual positions as well and the weather wasnt that great and so was the pitch.
